What to Wear

What to wear?

For all types of shoots I recommend keeping it simple and not too matchy.  I would try to choose solids over busy prints and to color coordinate rather than all wearing the same outfit or exact color.  The goal is to pick outfits and accessories that appeal to your style, are comfortable and fit with the season and location.  My best advice is to not stress too much about it.  Just be comfortable, coordinated and clean.

Upon booking a regular session we will discuss the type of session, the location and go what would be best to wear for your particular shoot.  It’s my opinion that if you are going to pay a professional to capture your life and loves, then it should all be a coordinated effort to make the best photographs that reflect your personality as possible.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Location and shoes.  Especially if our location requires walking to different locations, rugged nature, urban landscapes etc.  In other words, don’t wear your stilletos or hot mama wedges if you aren’t prepared to climb, walk or stand in them for the allotted time frame.
  • Being super trendy in today’s photograph means you will date yourself tomorrow.  We’ve all snickered at our parent’s bee hive hair-doo wedding photos or old  80’s  parachute pant loving year books.  It is inevitable, but some looks are just classic and some are not.  If you wan’t your photo to transcend the years with the least amount of giggles take care to avoid too many fashion fads.
  • Your face is my canvas not your blouse.  Pick colors that compliment your skin tone. As I said before, keep prints and loud clothing to a minimum.  This is especially important for couples and engagement sessions.  I want to capture how much you love each other.  Not your beer t-shirt and neon flower print dress.  If you are afraid that you will look to plain, feel free to accessorize.
  • Take care with hair and make-up but do not go overboard.  This isn’t theater and I can only do so much with photoshop.  Your best bet will to be well groomed with soft and natural make-up and hairstyle.
  • If you are wearing a nice dress it looks weird if others are wearing jeans and tshirts.  Try to match style, occasion and season of outfit.  It may be cold or hot so be prepared for weather contingencies.

Some clients are pros at creating their look and some aren’t.  If you have any questions or ideas you are always welcome to ask.  I will always be available to consult with your what to wear choices prior to the shoot.
